At Bailan, we believe that the kitchen is the heart of the home – it’s where we build bonds and lasting memories with our loved ones. Company founder Lenora Ebule still has vivid memories of her maternal grandmother’s dinner table in Cameroon, where delicious spices were paired with rich stories, folklore, and jokes.
When Lenora left Cameroon to study in England, she made friends with her fellow international students. Over shared meals in dorm kitchens, she quickly discovered that Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Eswatini had their own unique and wonderful culinary traditions. In addition to shared African origins, these diverse regional foods all had one other thing in common: The right ingredients were hard to track down in grocery stores – the mouthwatering, ready-made spices that were commonplace in Cameroon did not always exist in Manchester.
In parts of the United States, where Lenora resides, these ingredients are even more scarce, making it difficult to enjoy foods from Cameroon (and West Africa, North Africa, East Africa, and South Africa too). Families everywhere deserve to taste the bold, rich flavors enjoyed throughout the continent.
We created Bailan to fill that need.
What We Do
Bailan is an African food experience company specializing in high-quality spice blends that capture the flavors of Africa. Our African-inspired spices are made of 100 percent natural ingredients, with no salt, sugar, preservatives, artificial flavoring, or GMOs. We strive to bring the euphoric, authentic African dining experience to dinner tables across the globe. When people in the USA think of “international” foods, they often think of Tokyo, Mumbai, and Mexico City – we want you to experience Yaoundé, Lagos, and Nairobi!
Our mission is to make delicious, African-inspired culinary adventures accessible to diners throughout the United States and across the globe.
We envision a world where everyone enjoys the rich, mouthwatering tastes of African spices and we are working on making that a reality one meal at a time.
