Ethiopian Lima Beans Stew [Shahan Ful]


  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 Tbsp Bailan Spice Ethiopian Berbere
  • 10oz bag of frozen lima beans, thawed
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 cup of water

How To

  • Warm the oil in a medium saucepan and add the onion, garlic, and cook for about 3 minutes
  • Stir in the Bailan Spice Ethiopian Berbere and salt and cook for about 1 minute
  • Add the lima beans, tomato, and water. Stir well to combine
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 10 minutes
  • Turn off the heat, stir in the lemon juice, and serve hot
